1 out of 5 stars Poor indoor reception   December 31, 2008
Could only get this thing to work outside in the garden. I live in a full freeview area but as soon as we went inside it lost the signal using the mini-aerial supplied. Using the coax and it was fine but I need the mobility of having a separate aerial.

TV aerial installer came round and said the walls of the house were too thick LMAO! and that new building materials block radio/TV signals. Sadly for him he had not noticed that the house was built in the 1890's!!!

1 out of 5 stars Didn't work with my computer   December 23, 2008
I bought two of these as Christmas presents. Fortunately I decided to check them first. The instructions were sketchy but I followed them as best I could. Starting with a clean installation of WinXP-SP3, I installed the drivers first, followed by DirectX 9 and then the BlazeVideo software. (Useful tip: You have to enter a serial number then click on Register but, if you don't like registering software, disable your internet connection first. The serial number will work anyway.)

When I plugged in the first tuner stick, Windows recognized it and loaded the drivers. So far so good; I started BlazeVideo and, using only the supplied antenna (which is a joke), I scanned for channels. This took a very long time but I was pleasantly surprized to find a few channels, including BBC1. Sadly, there was nothing to see; the screen remained blank!

Undeterred, I tried again with a proper aerial and the scan found more channels. I watched it latch onto four of the six multiplexes and yet it found only a few digital TV channels within them. One was Virgin so I tried to watch but it was hopeless; both video and audio arrived in fits and starts, often freezing for seconds at a time. It was completely unwatchable.

A quick look in Device Manager revealed the problem; the tuner thought it was USB 1.1! I looked for any sort of option to put this right - including a driver re-install - but found nothing; the tuner remained obstinately stuck in USB 1.1 mode. I tried the other one but it was exactly the same.

I'm using a Foxconn 845GV4MR motherboard with a 2.4GHz P4, 1Gb of RAM and all the right chipset drivers and my USB ports are 2.0. I know this because every other USB 2.0 device I plug in behaves correctly - but not these tuners. The BlazeVideo software looked as if it might have been good, if only it had some decent hardware to work with!

Verdict: These things are cheap enough and, if you have a good strong signal available, you might get one to work but make sure you can send it back if it doesn't.

5 out of 5 stars Works well!   November 20, 2008
I am using this DVB-T adaptor in the back bedroom of a sixth floor flat in North London which has views right across London to Crystal Palace in the South. We have a simple set-top aerial and the reception on our desktop PC is perfect.

Installation was straightforward, and the remote control works well. Software and EPG seem good. I am happy to recommend this powerful little package, and at the current price it is a real bargain.

P.S. I haven't tried the miniaerial that came with it.

Had I received a complete blister pack I could have written an experienced
account of this item - as it is I can only comment on the lack of security
on the part of Duronic, and the ease by which third parties can tamper with the contents. This item is not sealed or, at least, stapled shut.
I will make it quite plain to Duronic that I shall not be buying any of their products, and urge other potential customers to beware.
"Once bitten twice shy" as the saying goes.
No stars then.
