Firstly, as a previous reviewer said, this is a great looking TV. I checked it out in the flesh before I placed my order via Amazon and I was excited about it being delivered. Unfortunately, that is where the excitement ended.

Upon arrival I attached the tv effortlessly to the wall mount that I had purchased along with it. Fitting the wall mount was simple and effective and I was up and running in no time. Within seconds of turning it on however I noticed that there was a large luminous pair of "dead" pixels just to the left of the centre of the screen. I immediately packaged it back up, contacted Amazon, and ordered a replacement. A few days later the replacement arrived. I turned it on and...yep, the new set had a similar problem. But on this occasion the picture was only affected by one slightly less noticeable red "dead" pixel, again to the left of centre. Not only that but this set appeared to suffer from a dim humming type noise whenever the set was on. Extremely unhappy, I packaged this set up too and proceeded to cancel my order. I am in the process of returning this item too and am expecting a full refund.

In terms of other aspects of the product, I found the screen to be capable of displaying decent imagery and colour from head-on, but if you are slightly to the side, or even above or below, a direct line of sight view the images darken and become difficult to distinguish. The sound quality is also not class leading: I'd expect better from even a 19" TV.

In addition to the screen quality gripes I found the remote control to be poorly laid out and totally non-intuitive. The channel buttons are fine and of a nice size but the additional service buttons (such as those for selecting text/digital services, sound and picture modes) are too small and somewhat unresponsive.

OK, so I may have been the unfortunate recipient of tvs from a faulty batch but I suspect not. I also don't think I have been overly picky. With so many reliable sets on the market we have no responsibility to accept second best or devices that are not fully fit for purpose; especially when they are brand new. As anyone knows, faulty pixels are irritating at the worst of times, but on a tv as small as this they are very, very easy to spot, and detract from the overall quality of the viewing experience.

In summary, I was wholly disappointed by this set and am looking forward to receiving my Samsung replacement.

Having looked for many TVs and already purchased it's bigger brother, I purchased this TV for use in the kitchen. As it is up high on a stand I was particuarly concerned about viewing angle and for sure viewing from a table below it does get slightly darker occasionaly but overall excellent. I would recommend this TV to anyone for this use. If you want it for high fidelity sound then I know what the other reviewer means but it is really not that bad . The picture quality is excellent and the set-up child's play.

3 out of 5 stars Poor Sound   November 3, 2008

The sound on this is bad. You'd get better sound from a pair of external speakers from the 99p shop.

5 out of 5 stars superb little tv   October 20, 2008

On the positive side, the aesthetic is great, a nice gloss black frame and pedestal stand. The screen also delivers a nice sharp picture with nice clear blacks. The digital television guide is excellent. Setup is incredibly easy (from opening the box and plugging it in you press okay twice and you can watch tv). The remote is comprehensive. The pedestal stand has a modest amount of tilt. The stand can be removed and the screen wall-mounted. Gaming (XBOX 1) and DVD (via Scart) performed well with DVD handling particularly impressive.

On the negative side, most reviews elsewhere have commented on the poor sound. To put it in perspective, the sound is tinny, but no worse than comparable lcd's of this size. But it is tinny and suited mainly to use in a bedroom or kitchen. Despite this, the clarity is good and speech well-defined and it can be turned up louder than most of us would ever need. My main gripe would be the lack of connections, just one HDMI, one scart and no PC in. But for watching freeview, DVD and plugging in a games system, it does the job. There is also a little colour bleed around the edges from the backlight, but it is barely noticeable and not apt to spoil the viewing experience.

I have not tested the handling of HD inputs, so cannot comment on that front.

At the price, be assured, this is a class-leading product and probably comes in a smaller package than a 19" measurement would suggest. Buy with confidence. I also found the Amazon Express service faultless.
