1 out of 5 stars Very Unreliable   December 29, 2008
This remote is great, but unfortunately in concept only. I have had this remote for a couple of years and have spent many, many, many hours trying to get it to work correctly. However, it often fails to turn one or other device on, which needs to then be done manually afterwards. More frustrating is the way it sends the same command multiple-times instead of once. I have been onto the support department many times and they have made tweaks through menus that only they can access. Even after this, it's still not right. I've decided that life is too short to spend any longer on it, so am putting up with the faults until I have saved enough for a device from another manufacturer! I may have just been unlucky, but would not chance a 'remote' device from Logitech again. It's a real shame as i love their keyboards and mice.

4 out of 5 stars Superb Product   November 19, 2008

This is a great product that feels well made, with a huge amount of thought going into the ergonomic design of the remote. The activities feature is by far the best thing about this remote, the idea that in most cases, what you really want to do is 'Play PS3', not turn the TV on, set the input, turn the amp on, set the input .... etc.

The configuration of this remote is also the best I have seen, instead of codes and repeated button presses, you have access to an online wizard set up process. Although I think this process could be better (the interface can be sluggish, and tedious), the mere fact that you have a computer based wizard set-up is in and of its self a dream compared to other products. Also the set-up process gives you an unbelievable amount of customisation, it takes a while to get it all right, but it really is worth it.

The range of the remote is brilliant, I can almost point the remote in the opposite direction to my equipment, and the IR transmitter still works. I don't use the RF extender, but its worth noting that it does not transmit IR signals from the base unit itself, you have to use the ports on the unit with the supplied cables attached to your equipment. In addition you'll also have to update the extender with the online set-up process every time you change your configuration.

The only slight downsides to this remote, is the price (it really is quite expensive) and the LCD screen, although it adequate, it is low resolution that doesn't look great. Other than that, this product is thoroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Very, Very Cool!   January 24, 2008

This universal remote is so amazing; I cannot believe it works so well or with virtually any remote system, old or new. I have a:
*Sony DVD Player
*RCA (tube) Television
*Denon Receiver (5.1 DTS)
*Dish Satellite
*Pioneer CD player Jukebox (missing the remote!)

Simply plug the "Harmony" Remote into your computer and download the software. The program asks you simple questions like your Device, Make and Model number. After entering this information, you `update' the Remote. It is that simple! The hardest part is writing down the Model numbers for each device. The Remote sits in a nice sleek holder that keeps it constantly charged. The color `touch screen' is touch sensitive and allows you to control your entire entertainment system in one remote. After you create your "activities" (devices), the same buttons works for all devices. Pick your TV, Receiver, CD player or prerecorded program and adjust the volume, song, chapter, program or anything with universal buttons. You can choose your favorite television channels, pick the ones you watch most often and even add graphics and logos to each channel that will display on the remote. You can program up to fifteen (15) different devices and update your "Harmony" when Logitech sends you a reminder via Email. Logitech really went out of their way to make a Universal Remote that is easy to program and use. Problem is you'll probably never get off that couch!

4 out of 5 stars Very good and versatile remote   December 6, 2007

Firstly it now does everything we need it to do. This includes all device control the original remotes covered plus sensible commands for each activity.

Purchased the 895 from Amazon as their price was as good as any and we have good experiences with them when things go wrong.

Initially set up the remote from the online database Logitech provide. This makes assumptions on what command each button will emit and what shows in the LCD display. After a short while we realised these were in appropriate for our needs and so reconfigured all the settings, including having to learn a few commands from each remote manually. How to do all of this is clear and works correctly, however I feel a bit more standardisation on the way the activities (watch Cable TV, watch DVD etc.) and devices (TV, Cable, DVD etc.) menus are arranged would speed up the learning process.

After about 2 hours the remote did roughly what we wanted, after about 2 days of adjusting every now and then it did 99% of what we wanted and after a further week it is now tweaked so we now do not need to pick up the original remotes at all. This includes controlling an amp and cable box in a separate room from the TV and with DVD players on the opposite side of the room. The most intensive remote use we do is dubbing DVDs, this includes erasing commercials as well as cropping the program to the correct start and end point, adding the correct title, labelling the DVD and finalising it, all this we do on the 895 as easily and a quickly as using the original remote.

The RF (Radio Frequency to the separate room) works perfectly. The IR (Infrared line of site) sometimes does not control an activity correctly and we have to use the help function to send the command again, not too big a deal.

So we now have the remote we expected when researching the product which was the primary concern. It looks very nice, the batteries last the day as long as you remember to place it back on the charging station before you go to bed.

I would recommend this to anyone who has the patience to configure what is a very versatile device.

3 out of 5 stars Confused between versions   November 1, 2007

Amazon has two versions of this product one of which is sold by Amazon and the other sold by Pixmania. The descriptions are slightly different but looking at Logitech's site these two items should be the same.

Does anyone have any information on whether the two products are the same or different?
