Get it April 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought the 555 Model a week ago very impressed. Did not have any problems loading software found it very straight forward I would say I have average technical knowledge. Only downsides were LCD screen allows 4 function options at a time and function options assigned to the LCD screen were not logically laid out but this was easy to remedy if a little time consuming. I decided to get another remote for downstairs and move the 555 upstairs. Decided on the 785. Very pleased with both, would recommend the 785 because of charging dock and larger LCD screen allowing 6 options at a time. Minor niggles on 785 are flimsy USB cover and no option to vary back lighting. Even taking into account these niggles easy 5 Star rating for both. I
OK if it worked properly. March 15, 2008 I purchased this `Harmony 785 Remote` in October 2007 and had to get it replaced as soon as i received it due to a fault. The backlight stayed on all the time and the time did not change. Contacted Logitech who told me there was a problem and so had to send it back for a replacement.
The second Harmony 785 Remote worked fine up until this week (March 2008) and it developed the SAME fault with the backlight & clock.
Will be returning this second control for a refund. If it wasnt for this problem, the control was easy to use and i liked it, But reading other reviews from other sites about this control, i have decided not to replace it with another 785.
Might be OK if it worked February 23, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
First one wouldn't power off so batteries lasted 3 hours on a charge. Second one wouldn't update configuration - a fairly fundamental problem. Gave up and got a refund - no problem.
The programming is extremely long winded. The downloaded programmes bore very little resemblance to the remotes they were supposed to emulate. I suspect it would never have replaced all remote controls. Therefore yet another table top ornament.
Logitech Harmony 785 February 20, 2008 I bought this remote as a upgrade to my Harmony 525. I found this to be a much more robust remote to handle. The build and weight of the remote was much more reassuring than the 525.
The Logitech software is quite good, sometimes it can be a bit tempermental, for instance when I switched remotes I had to reprogramme all of my custom buttons even though they were almost identical remotes. The ease which this universal remote adds to my system is fantastic, I despised having all my remotes lying on the armrest and then remembering which remote is at which input for which source.
I've taken a star off my review for two reasons. The first is the lack of response I get from my some buttons. Sometimes the button would have to be depressed past the plastic moulding to get a response. The second is the flimsy rubber cover on the mini-usb port on the top of the remote. It comes off at the slightest snag and takes away from the aesthetic design.
I think it's important to realise that this remote nor any universal remote right now is compatible with the PS3. There are work arounds for this but some can be frustrating. It's Sony's fault for not placing an IR port on their console (as they had done for the PS2)
Easy to use and does a lot! January 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Logitech Harmony can control 15 remote-controlled appliances, such as your TV and VCR, and even your lights and heat. I am using it right now for my TV and VCR/DVD and it's fun to use. The unit if sleek, lightweight, and designed to fit comfortably in your curved palm.
Logitech is known for thorough packing and makes an impressive presentation with two CD roms (one is for installation and the other is an owner's manual) and several booklets with instructions and features. The remote comes with battery and recharger, so you'll never have to replace the batteries again. The set-up instructions on the CD rom were really easy (and I usually have a hard time with things like that). You enter the brand and model number of each appliance you want to control, then connect your remote to your computer via the enclosed cable, and voila! You're ready to go.
It like most ordinary remotes except that it has a screen on it. This is where you choose what activity you want to do from those that you have programmed in. When you press "Watch a DVD," it turns on the TV and the DVD player and goes right to the channel needed to watch the movie. When you're done, click "Off," and the DVD player and TV both turn off. The colourful screen guides you with helpful questions when needed, and both it and the buttons light up when you pick up the remote.
I am very pleased with this new gadget and think I will enjoy using it for years to come.
