1 out of 5 stars You're lucky if you get one that works!   November 4, 2008

The first remote I received would not power up so it was returned.

The second remote would power up however was faulty and could not be connected to by PC or Mac.

Two deviced received and both were faulty. The build quality and reliability is clearly questionable.

5 out of 5 stars A truly brilliant product   November 1, 2008
I have bought hundreds of products from Amazon and despite being a journalist, never felt moved to write a review until now.

The reason I have made an exception? I am so impressed with this gadget I wanted to share my enthusiasm and encourage you if you are wavering.

In a nutshell, this product works.

It took me minutes to set up, it corresponded almost exactly to my original remotes and I could combine my different devices (using my amp for TV volume for instance) on one screen.

There are hard buttons for common functions like Volume and Select to make it easier to control. And the touch screen responds when touched (not always the case with other products).

One button on the remote did not correspond to the command I wished to give. I was able to put it right in moments. I can follow simple instructions but I am no computer geek. This was entirely straightforward.

I fiddled around with cheaper models before buying this. I wish I hadn't. And I am glad too that I didn't buy anything more expensive.

My good turn for the day is to tell you - buy this, you wont regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff....   August 28, 2008
Received the product today, very impressed.

Looks the business and works great.

I had a minor issue to do with not being able to select from menus in Sky Digital, and although it didn't pick up the control mapping out of the box (Everything else did: TV, DVD, AVR), after a call to Tech Support, I was able to map the right command.

The way in which the control troubleshoots is superb. For some reason my TV wasn't turning on or off, after a few questions along the lines of "Now is it working?" and it going off and trying something else, it fixed it.

Tech support were really efficient, which bodes well for other Logitech devices. As a brand I find them excellent, I've been using their keyboards and mice for years, so it's nice to know the first time I had to contact them that they delivered.

Only one negative thing to point out that I didn't realise previously, and it's hardly Logitech's fault, you won't be able to control a Sony PS3.

May only be first day gloss, but hey, it inspired me to write something here.....

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful hardware, terrible software   June 25, 2008
I'm editing my review because after some use, I've figured out ways around the issues I had before.

I came from a Philips Pronto to this, so it was a shock to see how most of the options were done for me by Logitech. Long story short: Logitech automates the entire process for better or worse, and when you haven't quite figured it out, it's for the worse. However, once you learn the logitech logic, you can work around certain issues and the results are AMAZING.

The software doesn't work on my laptop, had to install it on the PC and even then I had to disable the firewall/antivirus. The software is annoying in that it's totally online. Meaning all your setup is done via an interface that connects online to Logitech and the software is based there. You can't therefore save different variations. Every change you make, you have to undo if you don't like it or it doesn't work. You can't simply revert to a previous backup.
Also, no way to simulate how the remote works like with the pronto, you have to update the remote.

Worse: if you have a RF extender, you have to update that first as well! and both things take a long while. Stupid having to unplug the RF extender each time for changes that do not affect the RF extender. And what's with the "connect" button?

Anyway, that aside, the remote works wonderfully and intelligently. The screen is outstanding, and it even has a slideshow and personalised wallpaper. A bit of tweaking and you'll have this working everything. I wouldn't be without it now, but you do have to learn how to get around the difficulties caused by Logitech-enforced rules. But it's doable and the end result is faultless.
No crashing, no problems at all. Only thing is it screams when you first put it into the charging base while the screen does the slideshow. No biggy.

2 out of 5 stars logitech Harmony 1000   June 2, 2008

We purchased this product October last year. it took about an hour or so to set up as we decided get it to do everything. it sets up the Xbox, DVD, amp, Cable, Plasma and the DVD recorder. It all works fine, and if it does not then it does go through a series of questions to sort it out. This was great for only two weeks, then the charger blew, and there is no fuses anywhere to check. This took us a month to sort out with logitech, after lots of emails and checks, they sent us a whole new replacement unit and charger. Again we were up and running and could finally charge and use the remote again. Then 2 months later, guess what, the charger has blown again. After doing some checks, we have found that by using the dock from the original charger and cable from the replacement, we have got it running again. Not sure how long this is going to last, but i cringe when i turn the plug on. Only reason we got to try and swap cables and docks around is logitech never gave us a return address for the faulty one first time round.
It works very well when it's able to be charged, unfortunatley the dodgy chargers we have has made us give it such a poor rating. I must admit though, now we do not even use it anymore. It spends it time gathering dust and we use all the original remotes again now. The battery life is rubbish on it too, so if you try to charge via the usb, it takes an age.
