4 out of 5 stars Overall a good dvd player   December 11, 2008

Had one of these a few months now and i have to admit its a very good dvd player. Running it on a 32" hd tv and everything is fine.

Usb port is the main reason i brought this over a different model and it did not disapoint. So far i have had a 4gb,8gb and 16gb sandisc usb drive play on it without a problem. and also my 300gb lacie hard drive. Ive noticed alot of people have had complaints with usb sticks and this model. One thing i have discoverd is that it only works with fat32 format not NTFS. So if a memory stick fails try checking and changing the file format and everything should be fine

Has anyone else had a low level beeping noise from there player. I only noticed this the other day. Its only on standby, Not that loud but bloody annoying once you know its there. Not the end of the world but would be good if i could fix this.

Over all, a good dvd player. Well worth every penny

5 out of 5 stars Just tried a 16GB Patriot flash drive with this and it works brilliantly!   December 2, 2008

I bought this Toshiba dvd player to replace my more expensive Samsung 1080p upscaling dvd player because it didn't have a USB port and i can honestly say i'm impressed with it.

The upscaling is great via HDMI, disc loading is quiet and fast,it can even play MP3 DVD's which many players struggle with. The front LED doesn't give much info but this isn't a negative point for me as the on-screen display more than makes up for that and i don't get distracted with too many flashing lights on the front of the dvd player while i'm watching a film etc!

It is really quiet (I also have a Phillips USB dvd player in my bedroom but it is very slow and noisy in comparison and the remote is horrendous, you have to have it in just the right place or it doesn't work at all)

Finally the USB port is fantastic for all your file types, Divx, Avi, MP3, JPEG etc via a USB flash drive-loading times are good (depending on the speed of your flash drive) The book says it will only support upto 4GB flash drives and recommend PNY but i use a Buffalo 4GB flash drive and a Patriot Xporter XT 8GB flash drive with no problems at all. (The 8GB Patriot Flash is more expensive but much faster to transfer your data and takes less time for the dvd player to read the info - Read speeds of 25mbs and write speeds of upto 18mbs)

Overall a really good purchase which i can highly recommend. I used the free delivery service from Amazon which made it cheaper still-i ordered on a Monday and it was with me by Friday-great stuff!

UPDATE: I noticed the player emitting a high pitched buzzing noise whilst on standby which once you've noticed it is really hard to ignore. Luckily i'm within my 30 day return period with amazon so i'm going to try returning it. (This is in my bedroom where it is quiet if you have it in a different room it probably wouldn't be a problem?)

5 out of 5 stars 8GB works well   December 1, 2008

Just to confirm that an 8GB USB flash drive (Sandisk Micro Cruzer) works well even though the instructions specify a 4GB limit. Has anyone tried 16GB yet?

3 out of 5 stars Annoying bleeping noise!!   October 13, 2008

I bought this item on the strength of reviews on this site + amazon price was extremely competitive & agree that it plays/upscales pretty well. USB port is a strength if a bit unsightly.
The reason that I decided to write a review for the first time is that my player seems to be afflicted with the tendency to give out a constant low level beeping noise particularly when on standby!!??
Initially I thought this was noticeable just when I was very close to it but now that I know what I am listening for it is becoming more & more noticeable..driving me nuts!....have any other reviewers noticed the same issue I wonder if mine is faulty??
My other gripe with this item is the so called, "Regza link" The bumpf which came with my Tosh TV gave me the impression that this was some sort of intuitive system whereas in fact all it seems to do is enable use of the TV remote for the DVD player...not impressed.
Finally, I have noted that some discs appear to play quite noisily compared to my previous, "cheap" player & that the remote receiver seems to need a good long press of a button before it will recognise the input.Toshiba SD580EKTB DVD Player With 1080p Upscaling And USB Port
