Best features for the price. Excellent SD pic, futureproof. December 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought recently and am extremly pleased with this TV. Be aware that there seems to be loads of models around. I have the 37XV553DB. This has a dark silver lower panel and stand. I believe the 555 is all black. Either way the frame around the screen is thin and sleek and the TV sits low on it's stand meaning it does not dominate the room at all. Set up is very easy, with the TV rapidly finding all freeview channels. Picture quality is, to me, excellent. The TV is in a lounge with seating 7 foot and 12 foot from the screen and from this distance the screen size works for me. Standard def sky connected through a RGB scart is of slightly better quality to the freeview to my eye, with colours appearing more natural. The TV allows a lot of customisations to the colours and there are, available on the net, settings used by reviewers and the geeky sort of people that try everything out. I found that with a bit of tinkering I have made the colours slightly better to my eye. A non upscaling DVD player, again connected via scart gives *really* good picture quality that is very sharp and defined. Dark scenes in films show up well, though I can see that they could be a lot better but not at this price, and probably not on LCD. I would point out though that if you intend to wall mount this TV and use scart to connect to it that the sockets at the rear are not recessed that deeply and the scart leads plug in vertically, meanign that the bulky scart plug protrudes from the rear of the set. No problem if you are using the TV on it's stand as I am, but should you wish to mount it fulsh against a wall thsi would cause problems. This is really Scart's fault... they really are chunky ugly things! So to my futureproof comment... well this set has 3 HDMI connections and this seems to have established itself as the connection the current HD kit uses and will continue to do so. The TV is 1080p, full HD and therefore will display the highest quality that blueray can offer. So when my budget runs to that my TV is ready. HDMI connections might make the wall mounting issue easier as well.
All in all I thoroughly recommend this TV for it's picture quality, features and styling.
Lovin this tv! December 4, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had this tv delivered yesterday and its fab! Does what it says on the tin. Was dubious about ordering cos of review left by another customer saying they had recently received faulty tv's and amazon couldnt fulfil their order. Amazon have fulfilled mine no problem so I say order with confidence!
I wish it was always this easy ! December 1, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ordered Wednesday, arrived Friday, installed Saturday and it just works. Connected power and aerial, switched on and let the built in freeview decoder do its stuff, 5 mins later all the freeview channels active. Then connected my Sky Satbox (standard, not HD) and my XBOX 360 which supports full HD 1080p. Both work and the HD output from the XBOX is stunning. The sky service is good, much better than the widescreen CRT set I've replaced. This is a real bargin, the set looks the business and the 37" size is neither overpowering nor intrusive. Definately recommend this set and the service from Amazon, just brilliant.
Great value! November 18, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this particular TV for just over 2 weeks and have to say the quality of picture for the price is great. I haven't tried it with HD content other than with my X-Box360, but have to say games look fantastic played at full HD (1080P). Cannot comment reliably on the analogue TV reception as I don't get a good signal where I live, though the digital picture through the inbuilt freeview tuner proved to be unexpectedly very good given that the analogue reception can be pretty dodgy! However using Sky or playing upscaled DVDs show that this TV can really shine in the picture dept. If I had to be really picky I would say that ultimately the blacks are never truly deep but given the price point of this TV this is understandable. I will be geting Sky HD soon and I am sure I will be amazed all over again given the results from my X-Box!
Another feature which may be of use to some people (but I won't use) is there is a slot to enable the TV to take a Top-up TV card.
So why have I docked one star off my rating? Well this is my second TV - the first one came with a picture fault "out of the box", however in fairness the TV was exchanged without quibble in 2 working days! Also the audio quality is distinctly average - even for TV speakers! However it is good enough for casual use, but for serious movie watching or gaming I have hooked it up to my Surround Sound HiFi and it sounds just great!
Excellent product November 17, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this item on Tuesday and received it by 10am Saturday. I love it!! The picture comes into its own when playing a DVD. Freeview is quite clear too. Sky seems a bit grainy, I think I'll get SKY HD. I can't wait to see the 1080p go into action. Saving up for a Panasonic DMP35 BD Blu Ray Player. Thank you Amazon for selling such a good product for such a low price.Toshiba 37XV555DB - 37" Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview
