What a bargain!! March 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was originally looking for a normal DVD upscaler before I saw this deal on Amazon. Although there will be no more HD DVD's released, there are still hundereds in the back catalogue that you can pick up for peanuts now! As for the upscaling, you will not believe how good your old dvd's look! It's very easy to set up, and the player looks very stylish and sleek. In summary, if you are looking for a top of the range upscaler with the added bonus of the HD DVD content you really can't get much better.
Excellent machine March 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
+ Fantastic picture on conventional DVDs (no problem playing any of my collection) - worth it for that alone. Also noticed a serious improvement in sound compared to my other DVD player.
+ Start-up time isn't that bad.
+ Amazon's DVD rental service still has lots of HD-DVDs to rent.
+ I also love the look of it, sleek and black.
- only slight problem was a freeze on "300", but I have updated the firmware and that might fix it.
Compared to the current price of blu-ray it seems a bargain.
good upscaler March 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have bought this machine for it's up scaling abilities and it is GOOD. I know HDDVD has lost the next gen battle but there are still films available for it for now at least. But that is not the point this machine is a very good upscaler for you normal DVD's and for less than 80 you cant go wrong.
BLOWN AWAY ! March 6, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Having brought a 46 inch sharp aquos lcd for xmas i did not have any money in the budget for a hd/blu player i was not sure what i required anyway. i already own a panasonic dvd recorder 400 pounds worth a few years ago and was very happy with the picture quality it produced. My collection of dvds are all standard (bit obv) so my main requirement for a new format is a good upscaler. When i saw the toshiba for 78.00 inc pp i orderd it straight away from amazon . when it arrived i connected it up in about 5 min tuned in rock and roll ,put in Blade Runner spec/ed the opening scene panning over the city with the gas towers flaming blew me away the picture quality ,sharpness, and deep colour stood out a mile compared to my panasonic this is the same with two other films i have seen on it so far. To cut to the chase if you are not botherd about paying 18.00 for every film you buy then buy a bluray but this will do me for 2 years then i will buy a bluray player for 78.00 as well.
Well worth the Price! February 24, 2008 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
HD-DVD is being phased out so what! At this price I can buy a decent upscaling player with support for the HD movies and playback my HD camcorder recordings. Win/Win for me, I also expect there to be many cheap HD-DVD movie bargains to be found in the next few weeks.
